WESTGATE, AUCKLAND
Auckland’s Northwest is experiencing large and rapid population growth and Westgate Town Centre is at its heart.
With a master plan 20 years in the making, Westgate is now a recognised Town Centre with major plans for continued growth. New Zealand Retail Property Group (NZRPG) have worked collaboratively with Auckland Council and a range of commercial partners to deliver a mixed-use Town Centre that offers space for retail, office, public, residential and industrial uses.
Home to all but one of New Zealand’s major retail anchors, the Westgate Town Centre offers New Zealand’s largest Mitre 10 and Bunnings stores, alongside three identifiable shopping precincts: Westgate Shopping Centre, Westgate Lifestyle and Northwest Shopping Centre and in late 2022, the first Costco store in New Zealand opened in Westgate Town Centre.

WESTGATE THE LOCATION AND CONNECTIVITY
Westgate Town Centre is well-placed and benefits from the connectivity to the wider Auckland Region. The established motorway and public transport networks provide access to key Auckland destinations, such as Auckland CBD, Albany, Manukau and more.
Multi-Nodal Auckland
Westgate has been identified as one of four urban nodes in Auckland.
These areas, along with their large catchments, will accommodate substantial growth in the north, south and north-west and will be connected by a range of efficient transport links.
Westgate’s economic catchment
Westgate catchment has been identified in four segments: Primary, Secondary Central, Secondary South and Secondary North catchments.
With Costco now open and ongoing development in the Town Centre, Westgate has the potential to draw additional shoppers from beyond these catchments.
Westgate’s total identified catchment is made up of over 1.5 million people.
Total annualised retail expenditure generated within the assessed retail sectors across the identified catchments in 2023 is estimated to be just over $22b.
With a large total market size in its core economic catchment, Westgate is quickly becoming one of Auckland’s highest performing retail destinations.
A RAPIDLY GROWING FUTURE
Westgate is an important part of Auckland’s growth capacity and will continue to develop over the next 10 -15 years. Westgate’s population growth is on average 2.6% per annum, well above Auckland’s regional average of 1.6% per annum
Construction capacity of around 15,000 homes is currently provided within the direct catchment of Westgate. Population growth within the area of over 80,000 is anticipated by 2048. Currently 50,000 people live within a 15-minute drive time of Westgate Town Centre.
