Te Hauāuru, the new Westgate Town Park, is due to be completed by spring. Hawkins Construction has started work on the 1.1ha site, which is situated in the 24ha open space next to the Northwest Mall on the corner of Maki Street and Tawhia Drive.

Henderson-Massey Local Board consulted on the concept plans nine months ago, working closely with local iwi, and is delighted to see the park finally taking shape.

Community feedback important

“We took on board the community’s feedback and we look forward to seeing people use this green open space at the heart of the Northwest retail and town centre development,” says Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair Shane Henderson.

Work to start on library and community centre

Long-term plans for the open space include a playground and a skate park. In the short term, the focus will shift to the new Westgate Library and Community Centre.

This facility will be located on Te Pūmanawa Square opposite the shopping mall. Work is due to be completed in 2018.

“Population numbers in the northwest are increasing rapidly, and we are committed to providing wonderful amenities like these to support that growth,” says Shane Henderson.
